Course: Writing Popular Fiction: The Basics
Tuesdays Mar 16 – May 04 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Willow Chase Campus
Think you can write a best seller that equals John Grisham’s best efforts? Perhaps you have a tale of romance or intrigue that haunts and taunts you? If so, jump start your creativity with a class on the basics of writing popular fiction and find out how to get the story out of your mind and onto paper. We’ll discuss basic story elements such as character, conflict, plot development and more. In-class writing exercises, story development — and trouble shooting — and the basic elements of fiction will help you generate raw material and complete a finished short story or section of a novel in progress. Class time is devoted to discussion and in-class writing exercises. Be prepared to write. 2.4 CEUs

Course: Tell Your Story Wednesdays Mar 17 – May 05 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Willow Chase Campus
Do you have a lifetime of stories or ideas to tell? This class is designed to help you find your way through the vast field of memoir or life writing. Discover how to make memories into memoirs, ideas into essays and life into literature. You’ll learn techniques to help you access memory, material, ideas, the unconscious and, yes, meaning. In-class exercises and assignments will trigger ideas, help you see your life more clearly and show you why real life stories are often the best. 2.4 CEUs

JANUARY CLASSES begin Jan 13 and Jan 14 and are the following:

Course: The Opening Bid Tuesdays Jan 13 – Mar 02 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm Willow Chase Campus
Do you have a nonfiction book idea but are overwhelmed at the thought of writing a book proposal? Demystify the process and learn what a book proposal is and why you would want to write one. During the class you’ll evaluate and refine your idea; gain insight into needed research; understand the competition; develop a concept statement; define your market; and create a blueprint for your book. Going through the process will provide insights, perhaps prevent future problems, and help you determine whether your project is suitable for publication. Isn’t it time you transformed your writing vision into a reality?

Course: The Artist’s Way Wednesday Jan 14 – Mar 03 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm Willow Chase
This course will cover the first half, six chapters, of The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. The Artist’s Way presents an exciting method for anyone to recover their creativity from limiting beliefs, self-sabotage, inattention, fear, jealousy, guilt, addictions, and other forces that inhibit the creative process. Each week students will be encouraged to discuss their experiences and related goals for the next week. In addition to being for new students, this class can also provide a refresher course for those who have tried The Artist Way on their own or in an informal cluster group. 2.4 CEUs

Since I’d never heard of “blogging,” I started reading – and couldn’t stop. Nice job; very interesting. As an aside to anyone reading this, take one of Vikk’s courses. I guarantee you’ll write. I sold a couple of short stories I’d written in her Fast Fiction class.
