Lost in a computer nightmare

Okay, I admit I don’t know anything about computers. So when my laptop told me to install the service pack 2 update, I dutifully followed the instructions. Next thing you know I couldn’t get past some weird screen that told me to click here or there under certain circumstances only to find myself in an endless loop. I turned the computer off and came home. Turned it back on and managed to get the safe mode operating, so I’ve now spent the last four hours copying files to my desktop. Who knows what will happen when I turn it off again.

When I looked at the disks that came with the computer, all I could find is a disk that restores the original program files and will, evidently, erase everything else. Alas, alack, and woe is me….

I have more luck with other people’s computers. I got my friend’s printer going when I was in N.Y. for New Year. This was something no one else had accomplished, so either she has completely cyber-challenged friends and family, or I was just lucky. When I really get in a jam, I have to send for my son-in-law, the video game producer. But even he has his moments–my computer was down for 2 weeks the first time he installed my firewall. Now the computer has slowed to half-speed, but those pesky (or terminal in some cases) viruses are kept at bay. Good luck with your woes. Here we have Geek Squad. They drive around 24 hours a day in a posse of Volkswagen Beetles.
