Unless you live in a sensory deprivation tank, you know it’s Harry Potter week and stores across the nation are gearing up for the big event Friday night when the clock tolls midnight. I will be working that night. It’s been a number of years since I’ve had a Potter midnight madness moment. Our store is gearing up with costumes, games, face painting, etc..
The Internet is loaded with Potter info. Sites dedicated to the movies, the author, the books, the Muggles, Harry Potter subjects, Harry Potter News (where they talk about the Jim Dale automated phone calls to Borders customers who have reserved the new HP books and many other tidbits regarding the new book’s launch), HP Bloomsbury style (where you can download your own Weasley Countdown Clock), and fans. Talk about an author’s marketing dream. . .I can only imagine what it would be like to have similar sites dedicated to something I’ve written, let alone have a readership that spans the generations and probably for generations to come. Of course, I don’t know if she’s had her own Disney Day yet–R.L. Stine of Goosebump fame did. I tend to think that until you’ve had the big D-Day in your honor and ridden through the fantasy land with Mickey at your side, you just haven’t made it yet.
If you haven’t had enough, check out the Fact Monster page on Potter and you’ll find quizzes, reviews, news, polls, and even a recommended reading list for Potter fans. Up to date news can be found on the Harry Potter News and Rumor site. For a serious box office analysis, read the in-depth report on Hollywood.com, and of course, there’s always breaking news.
That’s it today for Potter mania.
