Learning to write a Squidoo lens or article is a great tutorial for online writing. An effective Squidoo lens will need to have good keywords so Squidoo can be a crash course in SEO or search engine optimization.
I confess, I’ve been blogging since 2002 but my sense for SEO has been all but dormant until I tackled Squidoo earlier this year. Squidoo changed all that. I now understand that online writing is a decidedly different format than traditional nonfiction writing.
Effective Squidoo lenses demand keywords and SEO
Effective online writing has changed to accommodate the immense pressure exerted by search engines. Today writers must flip a switch and realize marketing an article to readers means you must first examine your work from the point of view of a search engine. How are people looking for your topic? What are the words they use to find related information? Today a good hook is not enough to gain a reader. First the article must be found, then it can be read.
Squidoo groups are the newbie writer’s best friend
I might not have fully realized the importantance of these SEO components had I not discovered the Squidoo community. Squidoo doesn’t exactly have a manual. It’s not like you go to a section of the site for the complete how-to info. Squidoo is a community-based platform and the people who inhabit Squidoo are an essential key to a new writer’s success. While there’s a formal Squid U, the real teaching happens through the individual lenses or articles other Squidoo folks have created that explain techniques and nuances, and offer how-tos, in addition to the advice and support offered daily through the various groups of Squidoo lensmasters. Many have a particular interest in guiding newbies through the lens creation process.
Learning the value of modules, the ways to layout a lens, the importance of organization and key words in headings and titles is quickly learned when a newly created lens or article is offered up to the group for comment. This is where the real learning begins.
Ready to Squidoo?
Why not surf over to Squidoo and sign up? You’ll soon Squid your way to greatness. It’s also helpful to be a member of Squidoo when you visit lenses and leave comments. It gives a boost to that particular article within the vast Squidoo community and is greatly appreciated by all members. The two groups I’ve benefited from are RocketMoms and Fresh Squids. To see what I’ve written so far, check out the Index lens I created. After you’ve checked it out, I’d love it if you’d come back and let me know what you think. Have fun.
