NaNoWrimo 2015 begins now
NaNoWrimo 2015 officially begins November 1st, right? So why do I say the annual writing marathon begins now? Procrastinators need read no further; but for the rest of us, there are plenty of things that can be done to make ready for this huge annual world-wide event. Pencils must be sharpened, laptops charged, notebooks readied, and so much more. Are you ready? Here’s a couple of things you do right away.
Preparation Tips for NaNoWrimo 2015
One way to make life a little easier and help set yourself up for a successful NaNoWrimo 2015 is to do a little preparation. Begin by going to NaNoWrimo.org and either signing up if it is your first time or reactivating your profile in readiness for next month. Two things I did this evening is update my author profile and this year’s novel or writing information page.
Complete your Nanowrimo 2015 Author Profile page
As you can see, I’ve already filled out my 2015 information. The opportunity to add more information has grown over the years. This is a great way to enlarge your Internet footprint and let other writers know a little bit about you. If you are published, you certainly want to add information and links so that others can find you and see what you’ve published.
Make use of the author bio page. Talk about your writing and publishing interests. In 2014, I led off with the information that I had published THE COFFEE BREAK JOURNAL FOR FICTION WRITERS. I also did a brief summary of my writing activities and interests and included my blog information–after all, NaNoWrimo attracts thousands and thousands of writers. Because I write about NaNoWrimo every year and have a series of posts going back several years, I put in the links to a number of posts. This year I added the link to my Amazon Author Page.
Here’s a fun section to let your fellow writers know more about you. You can even provide a link to your website or blog or even a book. Make sure you fill out your location information so that your fellow local writers can find you. You may discover new friends or rediscover old ones.
This is where you post the information about this year’s writing goals and plans. If you haven’t made up your mind or simply don’t know, simply put whatever you think you may do. You can always change, expand, or delete as you go. This year I think I’ll be working on the next book in my YA series. I’m not sure of the title so I made up a quick working title. I also don’t have the cover, so I found an image I liked and used that. I didn’t go into any great detail. You can write as much or as little as you want. You can see that last year I simply called it “Untitled Middle Grade.” Not very original but it served it’s purpose. I’ll be writing about some of the other things you can do as we move toward November 1st.

If you don’t do anything else — even if you’re not sure whether you will even begin NaNoWrimo 2015 this year, go ahead and activate your membership. Sign up. Fill out the basic author page and poke around. Check out the forums. Be sure and visit the local forums to see what is going on where you live. There are always live events where you can actually meet people face to face and participate in write-ins.
Look me up, I’m easy to find (Vikk) and tag me as a writing buddy, and don’t forget to read some of my earlier posts. You’ll find the series on the right sidebar. So, are you signing up for November’s big writing event? Let me know in the comments below.
